How could customs had been so lapse?, She asked herself as she walked through the door. She knew she had been taking a risk, but what choice had she been given? Carry the case from Malaysia, or be hunted down. Some choice, she thought to herself as she sat down. All she wanted now was a shower and a sit down. The hard work had been done, now all she had to face was the collection from one of his goons. Unfortunately, she had
barely had a chance to put the case down and take a seat when the phone
began to ring. "Bang on the dot" she murmured, as she picked
up the phone. There was no standing on ceremony, a time and a place
were given to her. All she had time to do was confirm that she had the
time and place correct and the line went dead. This annoyed her
.
Bad manners always did, even under these strange circumstances. To cheer
herself up, she opened up the case and once more she took a look at
the contents of the case. Even though she had no idea what it was, she
still felt euphoric that she had gotten away with it. Freedom was now
hers. "Charming" she said to herself as she put stared into the case, not really expecting an answer, but the talking gave a release to all the tension that had built up within her. "Manners obviously was not their strong suite" came the reply from the chair in the corner. Teri froze and all she could do was look to where the words had come from. In the corner sat a squat man, maybe in his late 30's. She could see that he had once been a powerful man, as the muscles were still there, but somehow looked as if they had not been used or trained in years. He looked like a hard man that had allowed himself to go soft, allowing his reputation to do his talking. Maybe it was the playful eyes that made him look soft and the childish smile that played on his lips. A typical has-been gangster, she thought to herself. Teri knew some Aikido, but was it enough to take him out and run out of her flat? The gun in his hand was enough to answer that question. Teri felt she had no choice but to give in, for now. She let the case lid drop and raised her hands. "My name is Keller," he spoke to her softly, as he got up from the chair, "and you are going to do exactly as you are told .. understand?" Suddenly that child like smile was transformed into something more malevolent. The smile had remained in place, but there was now something in those eyes hinted at violence and strangely, Teri thought as he walked towards her, someone who was hunted himself. Keller barked orders at her to kneel on the sofa, face the wall and put her hands on it. Teri knew she had no choice. As she took the position, she found that there was no way she could quickly move from this position, Whoever this guy is, she thought to herself, he is a professional Teri chilled as she felt the cold steel of the gun nuzzle through her hair and onto her head.
"Good girl," this Keller told her soothingly "Now bring your hands together, slowly." Teri did as she was told and started to feel safe. Without warning, Keller struck downwards at her hands. Unable to react quickly enough, her face smashed into the wall, stunning her momentarily. Keller had engulfed her, a flurry of action. Only then did she begin to realize she was wrong about him. This person, whoever he was, was not past his best, even if he looked like it. Before she knew it, Keller had a grip on Teri's left wrist and she felt the steel bracelet of a handcuff close onto her wrist tightly. Teri knew fighting was not an option and meekly surrendered as he pulled her right wrist around and cuffed her hands together. Roughly, he sat her down on the sofa. Teri curled up as much as she could into a ball, bringing her legs up in a defensive posture. "Stay there," Keller ordered her. "Who are you?" Teri asked "Please take whatever you want, but you should know that I work for " Teri never got to finish her sentence, her threat, as she was cut off cold by the man's reply. "Shut up Madam," Keller barked at her, "I already have what I want, and that is you. The contents of the case? It is fake. As for whom you work, that is something we will discuss later. Now shut up." Terri sullenly remained quiet as he picked up the phone and started speaking into it. He mentioned a german sounding name, and then all he said was "got her" It struck her as he put the phone down, he had not dialed a number. Was this all part of a big bluff?, she wondered. The man seemed to read her mind as he nodded at her. "That's right, we have had you bugged for quite a while. Now we are going on a road trip .. don't worry I am a cheap date," he said with that playful look in his eyes. Only this time that look gave her chills. Out of his pocket he produced a piece of fabric. On looking closer, she realized that is one of her pillowcases. "What are you doing?" Teri asked as he came towards her, frantically thinking of ways to try and stall him from doing whatever he had planned. "Who are you?" she pleaded as the pillowcase went over her, blinding her, and she was stood up and walked, with him gripping her shoulder and wrist "I will answer your
questions in reverse, Teri" for the first time he had used her
name
. How did he know it? "My name is Keller and I am here
to try and save you life", he said as he opened the door and lead
her out of the flat. |
